Coralplant (Russelia equisetiformis), also known as the fountain plant or firecracker plant, is a perennial subshrub belonging to the Plantaginaceae family. It is widely recognized in agriculture and horticulture for its cascading growth habit and vibrant, tube-shaped flowers that resemble clusters of coral or firecrackers.

Originating from Mexico, this species thrives in tropical and subtropical climates. Its natural habitat is typically rocky, well-draining terrain, which defines its requirements in domestic cultivation. Today, it is used extensively in landscaping across warm regions and as a decorative container plant in cooler climates where winter protection is necessary.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by its rush-like, drooping green stems that are photosynthetic and virtually leafless. The flowers appear in profusion on the tips of these slender branches, providing long-lasting color throughout the growing season. The plant can reach significant dimensions, often spreading up to 1.5 meters, making it ideal for hanging baskets or retaining walls.

Successful cultivation requires full sun exposure and well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. While the species is relatively drought-tolerant once established, supplemental irrigation is critical during the active flowering phase to maintain vigor.
