Sea trumpet (Cordia subcordata) is a medium-sized tree belonging to the Boraginaceae family. Known for its adaptability to maritime environments, it is a key species in coastal tropical regions where it thrives under conditions of high salinity and sandy substrates, often found along the edges of coral reefs and lagoons.

The plant is native to a broad range spanning from eastern Africa through South Asia to Australia and the Pacific Islands. Its natural distribution is largely facilitated by the buoyancy of its seeds, which can drift across vast oceanic distances before germinating on suitable shorelines, making it a pioneer species for coastal stabilization.

Botanically, the tree features glossy, subcordate leaves and vibrant orange or saffron-colored flowers. The fruit is a hard, woody drupe containing several seeds. The tree's structure is generally low and spreading, providing significant shade, which is why it is often favored in tropical landscape design and community planning.

Cultivation requirements for Cordia subcordata include well-drained, porous soils and ample sunlight. It is highly heat-tolerant and requires minimal maintenance once established. Farmers and gardeners should ensure that the planting site has good soil aeration, as the tree does not tolerate waterlogging.
