Cordyla africana, commonly known as the African wild mango or bush mango, is a large deciduous tree belonging to the Fabaceae family. Despite its common name, it is botanically unrelated to the commercial mango. This species is highly regarded for its edible fruits and is a significant component of the woodland ecosystems in parts of Eastern and Southern Africa.
The tree originates from tropical Africa, with a natural distribution spanning from Kenya down to South Africa. It typically thrives in riverine habitats, coastal forests, and alluvial plains. It prefers locations where soil moisture is relatively high and consistent throughout the year, making it a key species in river basin ecology.
