Chinese hazel

Chinese hazel (Corylus chinensis) is a distinct tree species belonging to the family Betulaceae. Unlike the common shrub-like hazelnuts found in many temperate regions, this species is characterized by its tree-like habit, growing as a large, deciduous tree that can reach impressive heights of up to 40 meters in its native habitat.

The origin of this species is traced to the mountainous regions of Central and Western China. It is typically found at high altitudes, flourishing in cool, moist forest environments. Agronomic management involves consistent irrigation during the establishment phase, protection against soil compaction, and light pruning to maintain the structural integrity of the main trunk.

In terms of economic use, the Chinese hazel is prized primarily for its high-quality, durable timber, which is useful in furniture making and woodworking.
