Native to the arid regions of South Africa, specifically within the Cape provinces, this plant is naturally adapted to harsh environments. It typically grows in stony, well-drained soils and rocky crevices, surviving on minimal precipitation and intense exposure to sunlight, which has resulted in its succulent, water-retaining morphology.
Botanically, the plant is a compact perennial that rarely exceeds 15 cm in height. The triangular, fleshy leaves are arranged in a perfectly overlapping pattern that conceals the stem entirely. The flowering process occurs at the tips of the shoots, producing tiny white to pale pink blossoms; following the flowering phase, the main rosette often terminates, giving way to offshoots.
