Belonging to the Rosaceae family, this deciduous plant serves as a bridge between the morphological features of its parent genera. It typically grows as a small, well-shaped tree or a large shrub, making it a distinctive specimen for specialized horticultural collections.

The plant was first documented in Europe during the 18th century.
