Pricklegrass (Latin: Crypsis aculeata) is an annual plant belonging to the Poaceae family. In agricultural terms, it is recognized as a highly specialized halophytic crop, capable of thriving in saline environments where standard cereals or legumes would fail to germinate or survive.

The plant is native to arid and semi-arid regions of Europe, Central Asia, and North Africa. It is frequently found in ecosystems characterized by high soil salinity, such as salt marshes, the margins of saline lakes, and areas affected by secondary salinization due to improper irrigation practices in the past.
