The native range of Cutandia divaricata includes the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Basin, extending into North Africa and parts of Western Asia. It typically colonizes open, sandy, or stony ground, functioning as a pioneer species that prepares the substrate for more demanding vegetation through soil stabilization.
Botanically, the species is defined by its characteristic open, divaricate panicle, where the branches spread widely at maturity.
