The native range of the species covers tropical areas of Africa, the Americas, and parts of Asia. It thrives in wetlands, along riverbanks, and in marshy terrains where moisture is abundant throughout the year. Its ability to grow in saturated soils makes it a significant plant for ecological restoration and agricultural use in tropical wetlands.
