This species is native to the high-altitude volcanic landscapes of the Canary Islands, particularly thriving above the cloud line on Mount Teide. As a leguminous plant, it is uniquely adapted to thrive in harsh, nutrient-poor volcanic soils, demonstrating significant biological resilience.
The origin of this culture is strictly tied to the subalpine zone of Tenerife. Its natural habitat, located above 2,000 meters, has shaped its physiological traits, including high tolerance for intense solar radiation and significant diurnal temperature fluctuations. The plant is structurally dense, often forming rounded, intricately branched shrubs that provide essential ecological stability to high-altitude slopes.
