The native range of this species covers regions of Southeast Asia, including the Himalayan foothills, India, Nepal, Burma, China, and Vietnam. It favors humid tropical and subtropical forests, typically found at moderate elevations. In ornamental horticulture, this species is highly valued for its long, pendulous stems and vibrant yellow, fragrant flowers, which feature a characteristic dark spot in the center of the lip.
Botanically, the crop exhibits a sympodial growth habit with long, slender, drooping pseudobulbs. The leaves are lanceolate and tend to fall off after the growth season. During the flowering phase, which usually occurs in the autumn or winter, the plant produces short racemes bearing one to four waxy-textured flowers, contributing to its significant aesthetic value in greenhouse production.
Agrotechnical requirements include ensuring high atmospheric humidity (at least 60–80%) and excellent ventilation for the root system. Recommended substrates include medium-grade conifer bark, sphagnum moss, or specialized mounting blocks for epiphytes. The temperature regime must vary by season: a distinct diurnal temperature difference is necessary during autumn to stimulate flowering, while the plant requires relative dryness and cooler temperatures during the winter rest period.
The primary use of this crop is in specialized orchid collections and commercial floriculture. Common pests include spider mites, mealybugs, and scale insects, which often infest the plant when humidity levels or air circulation are poorly managed.
