The species originates from the southeastern European region, specifically Greece and parts of the Balkans. It is naturally adapted to rocky habitats, dry mountain slopes, and light woodlands. This historical origin dictates its preference for well-drained, nutrient-poor substrates and open, sun-drenched locations rather than rich, damp garden soils.
Botanically, it presents with a rosette of basal leaves and a sturdy upright stem, often reaching heights between 40 and 80 cm. The inflorescence consists of tubular, bell-shaped flowers in subtle shades of pale yellow, cream, or grey-brown. These colors provide a sophisticated look compared to the more vibrant, standard foxgloves found in many gardens.
Agronomic requirements for this species are specific: they require high light intensity and soil with excellent drainage to prevent crown rot. Cultivation usually involves low irrigation strategies, as excessive moisture is the primary cause of plant failure. It is well-suited for rock gardens or arid-style landscapes where standard perennials might struggle.
