Green-flowered foxglove (Digitalis viridiflora) is a herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the Plantaginaceae family. Unlike the more common purple or white varieties of the genus Digitalis, this species is highly valued by gardeners and botanists for its distinctively vibrant green-yellow blossoms.
The plant is native to the mountainous regions of the Balkan Peninsula, where it typically inhabits rocky slopes and open woodland environments. Due to its natural habitat, it exhibits strong hardiness and is capable of thriving in temperate climate zones provided that its specific soil and light requirements are met by the grower.
Botanically, the plant develops a rosette of lanceolate foliage followed by an erect spike of tubular flowers. The inflorescences can reach a height of nearly one meter. The unique lime-green color of the flowers is constant throughout the bloom period, which typically occurs in the early to mid-summer season.
Regarding agricultural practices, Digitalis viridiflora prefers well-drained, fertile, and slightly acidic to neutral soils. It is essential to avoid waterlogged conditions, as the root system is highly susceptible to rot if drainage is insufficient. Regular removal of spent flower spikes can sometimes encourage secondary flowering, although this is less consistent than in other species.
In terms of usage, the green-flowered foxglove serves exclusively as an ornamental plant. It is frequently incorporated into cottage gardens, woodland borders, and pollinator-friendly landscapes. Because the plant contains cardiac glycosides, it must be handled with care, and it is advisable to wear gloves when working with the foliage to prevent skin irritation.

- Powdery mildew in humid and poorly ventilated conditions.
- Root rot caused by heavy or saturated soil substrates.
- Aphid infestations on tender flower buds.
- Slugs and snails that may graze on the basal foliage during the spring.
