The natural distribution of this species spans tropical and subtropical regions across Asia and Australia. Within agricultural and horticultural contexts, it is primarily grown in specialized nurseries and laboratory environments. It is highly valued for its intense biological activity and its unique role as a natural predator of small greenhouse pests.

Its leaves are covered in specialized glandular hairs that secrete a sticky, enzyme-rich mucilage designed to trap and digest insects. During the flowering stage, the plant produces an inflorescence with small white blossoms, followed by the development of numerous tiny seeds.

The use of traditional fertilizers is strictly forbidden, as mineral salts can prove fatal to the plant. It demands high light intensity, constant high humidity, and irrigation exclusively with distilled or deionized water, typically supplied via the tray method.
