Echinocereus engelmannii, commonly known as Engelmann's hedgehog cactus, is a perennial succulent species belonging to the Cactaceae family. The species is native to the arid regions of the Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico. It thrives in extreme environments, including rocky slopes, desert shrublands, and canyon floors, where it has evolved to withstand high diurnal temperature fluctuations and long periods of intense heat with very little annual rainfall.
