Yellow spider flower

Epimedium davidii, commonly known as the yellow spider flower, is an elegant perennial belonging to the Berberidaceae family. This species is highly valued in horticulture for its distinct evergreen foliage and delicate, spur-shaped yellow blossoms that appear in spring, adding vertical interest to garden beds.

The plant originates from the mountainous regions of Sichuan, China. It is naturally found in woodland environments, often growing on rocky slopes where the soil is moist and well-drained. These environmental origins dictate its primary requirements for cultivation in temperate gardens globally.
