From a botanical standpoint, the plant is characterized by a globose stem that rarely exceeds a few centimeters in diameter. Its surface is completely obscured by tiny, radial spines that provide efficient thermoregulation. The reproductive biology involves small, pink flowers appearing at the apex, followed by elongated red berries that are a hallmark of the genus Epithelantha.
