Gangetic lovegrass (Latin Eragrostis gangetica) is a perennial grass species belonging to the Poaceae family. In agricultural contexts, it is recognized as a functional forage plant capable of thriving in specific tropical and subtropical environments, providing consistent biomass production under appropriate conditions.
The plant originates from tropical regions of Asia and Africa. Its natural distribution is closely associated with wetland habitats, such as riverbanks, floodplains, and areas with fluctuating water tables. This evolutionary history makes it highly resilient to periodic waterlogging, which is a significant advantage in certain agricultural landscapes.
Botanically, the plant develops in tufts, producing erect stems that can reach heights of 30 to 80 centimeters.
