Originating from Eurasia, this species has successfully naturalized across temperate regions worldwide. Its ability to grow in nutrient-poor, sandy, or well-drained soils makes it a common sight on field edges, pastures, and disturbed land. It often appears as an early-season weed in winter wheat, competing for space and nutrients before the crop enters the rapid growth phase.
Botanically, the plant is identified by its small, basal rosette of leaves and naked flower stalks that bear tiny, white, four-petaled flowers. The petals are characteristically deeply lobed, often appearing like eight individual petals at a glance. While it does not require fertilization, it is highly sensitive to soil moisture levels.
