Eucalyptus urograndis is a high-yield industrial hybrid created by crossing Eucalyptus urophylla and Eucalyptus grandis. The plant belongs to the Myrtaceae family and is widely regarded as one of the most productive species for intensive commercial forestry in tropical and subtropical regions across the globe.
This hybrid was specifically developed to combine the superior traits of its parents: the rapid growth rate and straight bole shape from E. grandis, and the disease resistance and soil adaptability from E. urophylla. The primary cultivation areas are concentrated in South America, particularly Brazil, as well as parts of Southeast Asia and Africa.
Botanically, the tree is noted for its ability to accumulate biomass at an exceptionally high rate, often reaching maturity within a relatively short rotation cycle. Its leaves are typically lanceolate, and the bark is smooth, often shedding in strips. While the tree requires intensive management in its early stages, it eventually forms dense, highly uniform stands that are ideal for mechanised harvesting.
