The original wild species originate from Southern Africa, which defines the plant's biological need for warm, temperate, or subtropical growing conditions. While they are resilient in their native habitat, their cultivation in other climatic regions requires strict adherence to seasonal cycles, including a distinct period of summer growth and a necessary dormant winter period in a frost-free environment.
Botanically, Eucomis plants possess a basal rosette of succulent, strap-shaped leaves and a sturdy scape that holds the inflorescence.
