Resin spurge (Euphorbia resinifera) is a succulent perennial shrub belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family. This plant is well-regarded in botanical circles for its architectural growth, featuring thick, four-sided, cactus-like stems that store water, allowing it to thrive in extremely arid desert environments.

The native distribution of this species is confined to Morocco, particularly the slopes of the Atlas Mountains. Its natural habitat consists of rocky, calcareous soils where intense solar radiation and seasonal drought are common. This history of adaptation makes it a robust candidate for xeriscape agriculture in appropriate climatic zones.

Botanically, Euphorbia resinifera is defined by its segmented branches armed with small, paired spines along its ridges. In spring, it produces small, bright yellow cyathia. The plant contains a highly irritating latex-like sap, which is a common characteristic of the genus and requires careful handling during propagation or harvest to avoid severe skin irritation.

Regarding agrotechnical requirements, the plant demands well-draining, mineral-rich substrates to prevent root rot. It is sensitive to excessive humidity and cold temperatures, necessitating a warm environment with full sunlight for optimal growth. Agricultural management involves minimal irrigation, specifically avoiding any water accumulation at the base of the stems.

Economically, the species is primarily valued for its resin, known as 'euphorbium,' which has historical roots in traditional medicine and modern pharmacology for its inflammatory properties.
