Gagea podolica, known as a type of star-of-Bethlehem or goose onion, is a perennial bulbous plant within the Lily family (Liliaceae). As an agricultural object, it is recognized for its early spring vegetative cycle, serving as a botanical specimen that is primarily of interest for research and specialized ornamental gardening rather than mass industrial production.
Originating from Eastern Europe, the plant is typically found in steppe and forest-steppe ecosystems. Its natural distribution is linked to areas with well-drained soils and high sun exposure. Being an ephemeral plant, it completes its growth cycle during the early spring months, before the heat of summer forces it into dormancy.
