Spiked mangosteen

Spiked mangosteen (Garcinia spicata) is a perennial evergreen tree belonging to the Clusiaceae family. It is recognized for its dense, leathery foliage and unique spike-like floral arrangement, which distinguishes it from other species within the diverse Garcinia genus.

The species originates from the tropical regions of Southern India and Sri Lanka. It thrives in humid tropical environments, where it serves as a structural component of the local forest ecosystem. Its range is strictly limited to frost-free tropical zones.

Botanically, the tree is characterized by a slow growth habit and a symmetrical, dense canopy. The leaves are deep green, opposite, and glabrous. Cultivation requires deep, well-draining, and nutrient-rich soils with consistent moisture levels. The plant is highly sensitive to waterlogging and requires a sheltered position during its early growth stages to protect it from harsh winds and direct scorching sunlight.
