Splendid geissorhiza (lat. Geissorhiza splendidissima) is a small bulbous perennial belonging to the Iridaceae family. This plant is renowned for its vibrant, metallic-blue flowers, which are considered among the most striking in the genus, often featuring a distinctively contrasting dark center.

The species originates from the Western Cape province of South Africa. Its natural habitat is characterized by a Mediterranean climate, where the plant thrives in well-drained, sandy soils. Being a winter-growing species, it completes its life cycle during the cooler, wetter months and enters dormancy as temperatures rise in summer.

Botanically, the plant is compact, rarely exceeding 20 cm in height. It produces a basal cluster of narrow, grass-like leaves from which slender stems emerge. The flowers are cup-shaped and open widely in the sunlight, showcasing the brilliant blue pigments that attract specific pollinators in its native ecosystem.

Cultivation requires strict attention to drainage, as the corms are highly susceptible to moisture-related rot. A gritty, nutrient-rich, but free-draining soil mix is essential. In regions with freezing winters, it is typically managed as a container plant, ensuring it receives maximum sunlight and protection from heavy frost or prolonged wet conditions.
