Gloriosa carsonii

Often referred to as a climbing lily, this species is highly valued in horticulture for its spectacular, reflexed petals and distinctive bi-colored flowers, which distinguish it from other members of the Gloriosa genus.

Originating from the tropical regions of Africa, specifically throughout Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia, the plant thrives in savanna-like environments. While it is not a traditional field crop, it is cultivated commercially as an ornamental plant in greenhouses for the premium floristry market. The plant requires specialized climatic management to mimic its natural, warm habitat.

Botanically, Gloriosa carsonii is defined by its tuberous root system, which is delicate and requires careful handling. The vine grows through tendrils located at the tips of its leaves, which act as natural anchors for climbing. The flowers display a vibrant mix of deep maroon or purple combined with golden yellow margins, creating a vivid visual impact.
