The native range of this species is confined to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. In its natural habitat, it thrives in the understory of dense forests, where it is shielded from direct sunlight by higher canopy layers. This historical adaptation to low-light conditions defines its primary requirements in artificial cultivation environments.
Botanically, the plant consists of a rhizomatous root system producing elliptical-shaped, leathery leaves with intricate venation patterns.
