Frequently referred to in horticultural circles as the orange cattleya, this species has been reclassified into the genus Guarianthe, distinguishing it from the traditional Cattleya genus due to specific genetic and morphological markers.

The plant originates from the tropical forests of Central America, spanning regions from Mexico down to Nicaragua. In its natural habitat, it thrives as an epiphyte on tree branches or as a lithophyte on rocky cliffs, requiring a balance between high atmospheric humidity and periods of drying, which correspond to the seasonal changes in its native ecosystem.

Morphologically, the plant features elongated, spindle-shaped pseudobulbs that store water and nutrients, supporting two apical, leathery leaves. The inflorescence emerges from the top of the mature pseudobulb, displaying a cluster of numerous small, waxy, and highly durable flowers that bloom sequentially or simultaneously, depending on environmental stability.
