Witch hazel

Witch hazel (Hamamelis intermedia) is a stunning deciduous shrub belonging to the Hamamelidaceae family. It is a man-made hybrid resulting from the crossing of Hamamelis mollis and Hamamelis japonica. This plant is highly prized in horticulture for its remarkable ability to produce fragrant, spider-like blossoms during the dormant winter season when most other plants are bare.

Botanically, this shrub grows with a spreading habit and can reach heights of 3 to 4 meters. The flowers are distinctive, featuring long, ribbon-like petals that can withstand light frost. Depending on the specific cultivar, the colors range from pale yellow to deep copper and reddish-purple. The foliage is broad and ovate, providing a vibrant show of yellow, orange, and red colors during the autumn months.
