The plant is native to the arid regions of Southwestern Africa, specifically found in Namibia and Angola. Its natural habitat is characterized by extreme heat, intense solar radiation, and very low rainfall, which has driven the plant to evolve into a highly efficient water-storing succulent.

Botanically, the species is defined by its erect stems with tubercles and sharp spines. The flowers are quite distinct, typically featuring a fleshy, brownish-purple hue and a scent profile designed to attract specific desert pollinators. The plant growth is slow, focusing energy on survival and moisture storage throughout the dry season.

Successful cultivation of Hoodia currorii in an agricultural or greenhouse setting requires mimicking its native environment. Growers must prioritize the following conditions:
