Huernia macrocarpa is a perennial succulent species belonging to the Apocynaceae family. It is a distinctive low-growing plant that is widely recognized for its unique, star-shaped, and often patterned flowers, as well as its segmented, fleshy stems that store water, allowing the plant to survive in harsh, arid environments.

The plant is native to the arid regions of East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. In terms of horticultural use, it is cultivated primarily as a collector's ornamental plant, often kept in greenhouses or as a houseplant due to its small stature and high adaptability to container cultivation within controlled environments.

Botanically, this species is defined by its succulent, angular stems that reach approximately 10 to 15 centimeters in height. The stems are typically marked with small tubercles or teeth. The flowers, which emerge from the base of the stems, are the highlight of the plant, featuring a complex structure often described as campanulate or stellate, frequently exhibiting intricate red-brown markings on a lighter background.

Effective agronomic management of Huernia macrocarpa centers on mimicking its natural desert habitat. It requires a highly porous, gritty substrate that ensures rapid drainage. During the growing season, it thrives in bright, indirect light. Proper irrigation is critical; the growing medium should be allowed to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root system collapse, especially during the dormant winter phase.
