Dalmatian hyacinthella (Hyacinthella dalmatica) is a perennial bulbous plant belonging to the Asparagaceae family. This delicate, spring-blooming species is highly valued for its compact growth habit and cluster of exquisite bell-shaped flowers, making it a perfect candidate for specialized rock gardens and early spring collections.

The plant originates from the rocky and limestone-rich landscapes of the Balkan Peninsula, specifically the Dalmatian region. Its evolutionary history has endowed it with specific environmental preferences: it thrives in areas with wet, cool springs followed by hot, dry summers. This cycle is essential for the plant to successfully complete its growth stage and enter dormancy.

Botanically, this species is noted for its short stature, typically reaching heights of 10 to 15 cm. Its leaves are basal and slender, appearing shortly before the flower stalks. The inflorescences are dense racemes composed of bright blue to violet-blue flowers, which provide a significant aesthetic impact despite their small physical size compared to common garden bulbs.
