Ciliate hyacinth

This distinct species is recognized for its unique appearance, characterized by fine hairs along the leaf margins, which distinguishes it from other members of the genus. It is highly valued in horticulture for its ornamental beauty.

The plant originates from the Mediterranean basin and parts of Asia Minor, where it naturally thrives in stony, well-draining soils. Its evolutionary history has made it well-suited for temperate climates that feature a distinct seasonality, including a warm, dry period after the flowering stage, which is essential for the bulb's maturation.

Botanically, the plant develops from a fleshy bulb, producing a basal rosette of leaves. The inflorescence is a dense, fragrant raceme composed of small, bell-shaped flowers.
