Willow leaf hygrophila (scientific name: Hygrophila salicifolia) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Acanthaceae family. It is a highly versatile aquatic and semi-aquatic plant that thrives in wetland environments, characterized by its ability to adapt to both submerged and emergent growth forms depending on water levels.
The plant originates from Southeast and East Asia, including regions in China, Japan, and the Indochina Peninsula. Its natural habitat includes marshes, pond edges, and slow-moving streams. Due to its tropical and subtropical heritage, it is well-adapted to environments where moisture is abundant throughout the year, allowing it to colonize various water-logged soils effectively.
