Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) is a prominent evergreen coniferous tree belonging to the Cupressaceae family. In its native habitat, it can reach impressive heights, serving as a primary species in reforestation projects and temple grounds.
Native to Japan and China, this species thrives in temperate, humid climates with high rainfall and mild winters. It is deeply integrated into the cultural and historical landscape of East Asia, often referred to as "sugi" in Japan. While it prefers mountainous regions with deep valleys, it has been introduced to various parts of the world with similar oceanic or subtropical microclimates.
