Kashgar tamarisk (Tamarix hispida Willd.) is a perennial deciduous shrub belonging to the Tamaricaceae family. Recognized for its extreme resilience, this crop is a critical species in agronomy for managing harsh landscapes where conventional vegetation fails to survive.
The plant originates from the arid regions of Central Asia, specifically the Kashgar area and neighboring parts of China. Its natural habitat is characterized by extreme temperature fluctuations, sparse rainfall, and saline-alkali soils, which have shaped the plant's evolutionary ability to thrive in poor-quality, hostile environments.
Botanically, this tamarisk is defined by deep, extensive root systems and specialized scale-like leaves that reduce surface area to prevent moisture loss.
