Description

Field scabious (Knautia arvensis) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Caprifoliaceae family. It is a common feature of grasslands, meadows, and roadsides, known for its resilience and ability to thrive in diverse environmental conditions across its natural range.

The plant is native to Europe and parts of Western Asia, having been introduced to other temperate regions. Its distribution is quite broad, as it is well-adapted to various soil types, particularly preferring well-drained, lime-rich substrates found in open, sunny meadows.

Botanically, field scabious is characterized by its erect, hairy stems that can reach up to 100 cm in height. The foliage is variable, often deeply lobed or divided.
