The plant originates from the arid regions of Namibia. It thrives in desert environments where it grows primarily in rocky crevices or partially shaded areas, protected from intense, direct solar radiation. Its natural habitat is characterized by extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night and very irregular precipitation, which shaped its biological resilience.

Botanically, Lavrania haagnerae is distinguished by its distinct ribbed stem structure covered with small tubercles. The flowers, appearing periodically, are classic examples of the tribe Ceropegieae, displaying a complex star-shaped geometry.
