For successful commercial production, growers must provide high light intensity, as the plant will become spindly and lose its characteristic leaf structure under low-light conditions. Water quality must be maintained free of harmful heavy metals.
Host plant utilization is centered on the aquatic ornamental trade and ecological water purification projects. It serves as a biological filter in hydroponic setups by extracting excess nutrients from water. Typical pests include aphids and spider mites, which can easily colonize the foliage in greenhouse conditions.
