It is a distinctive member of the genus Mammillaria, characterized by its cylindrical or subglobose stems, which are composed of prominent tubercles, typically exhibiting a firm and robust structure that is adapted to arid environments.

The native habitat of this species is located in Mexico, specifically within the states of Puebla and Oaxaca. In these regions, the plant thrives on limestone substrates and open slopes where drainage is excellent. Its natural geographical range defines its environmental requirements, favoring high sunlight intensity and a climate with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night.

Botanically, Mammillaria carnea is distinguished by its radial and central spines, which provide protection and shading for the plant body. The flowers, appearing in the spring and summer months, are notable for their fleshy, pinkish tones. The species is known for its slow but steady growth habit, often clustering at the base as it matures, which enhances its aesthetic appeal.

Cultivation requires strict adherence to xerophytic agricultural practices. The soil must be highly porous, usually a mixture of inorganic materials like pumice, lava rock, and coarse sand.
