Manilkara kauki is an evergreen tropical tree belonging to the Sapotaceae family. Known for its slow growth and resilience, this species is highly valued in its native regions for both its edible fruits and its exceptionally durable and high-quality timber.

The tree is native to Southeast Asia, specifically ranging from Indochina and the Malay Peninsula to Indonesia, the Philippines, and Northern Australia. It thrives in tropical climates and is particularly well-adapted to coastal environments, showing a remarkable tolerance for saline soils and sea winds that would inhibit the growth of many other fruit trees.

Botanically, Manilkara kauki features a dense crown of leathery, elliptic leaves which are distinctively silver-hued on the underside. These fruits turn a vibrant reddish-orange or brown when mature, containing a sweet, palatable pulp popular in local culinary traditions.
