Description
Metalasia muricata, commonly known as Blombos, is an evergreen shrub belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is recognized for its ability to thrive in challenging environments, making it a subject of interest for xeriscaping and sustainable horticulture in regions with Mediterranean-like climates.
Native to the Western Cape of South Africa, this species is widely distributed across coastal dunes, rocky slopes, and mountain fynbos. Its evolutionary history is deeply tied to the fire-prone and nutrient-poor soils of its habitat, which has rendered the plant exceptionally resilient to environmental stressors.
Botanically, the plant is characterized by its small, needle-like, greyish-green leaves that form a dense, bushy structure.
