The native habitat of these plants spans the high-altitude cloud forests of the Andes in South America, specifically regions in Colombia, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. In agricultural settings, they require climate-controlled glasshouses to mimic the humidity and temperature stability of their natural mountain homes.

Unlike many other orchid genera, Miltoniopsis plants do not tolerate drying out completely.
