The native habitat of this species is the island of Socotra, located in the Indian Ocean. In its natural environment, the plant is found in dry, rocky areas where rainfall is extremely scarce. Due to its narrow endemic range, this species is considered rare and is of significant interest to collectors of exotic botanical specimens.
Botanically, Monolluma is characterized by heavily branched stems that may take on a grayish-green or brownish hue under intense sunlight. The plant has a robust root system designed to store moisture within the substrate. During the blooming season, Monolluma produces unique star-shaped flowers, common among many Asclepiadaceae, often featuring mottled patterns and a distinct scent to attract pollinators.
