Murraya koenigii

Murraya koenigii, commonly known as the curry leaf tree, is a tropical to sub-tropical shrub or small tree belonging to the Rutaceae family. It is widely cultivated for its highly aromatic leaves, which are an essential culinary herb used to provide a characteristic flavor to many dishes.

Originating from India and Sri Lanka, the plant is now cultivated across tropical and sub-tropical regions globally. It typically grows as a small tree reaching up to 6 meters in height. The foliage is pinnate, featuring numerous small, pointed leaves that are rich in essential oils responsible for their distinct pungent fragrance.

Botanically, the plant produces small, white, fragrant flowers followed by small, black, shiny berries. It is a slow-growing plant that thrives in warm environments. While it can tolerate a variety of conditions, it does not withstand frost, making it suitable for container cultivation in cooler regions.
