Native to Mexico, this species has successfully naturalized across various tropical and subtropical regions globally. It is highly valued for its exceptional drought tolerance, allowing it to thrive in arid environments where water scarcity prevents the cultivation of traditional crops. Its ability to grow in poor soil makes it a vital resource for rural economies in dry zones.
