Often referred to as a member of the Star-of-Bethlehem genus, this species is noted for its distinctive white flowers marked with green stripes. Originating from the Iberian Peninsula, specifically southern Spain, this plant is adapted to Mediterranean-style climates characterized by dry, hot summers and cool, wet springs. In its natural habitat, it thrives in stony, well-draining soils on sunny slopes. Its evolutionary development has favored drought tolerance during the summer dormancy period.
Botanically, Ornithogalum baeticum develops a tunicated bulb that stores energy for the following season. The basal leaves are linear and emerge in early spring, followed by a scape bearing a raceme of star-shaped flowers.
