Spreading star-of-Bethlehem (Ornithogalum divergens) is a perennial bulbous plant belonging to the Asparagaceae family. This species is known as an ephemeral bulb, characterized by a rapid growth cycle during the early spring and a dormant phase that begins as temperatures rise, ensuring its survival in arid environments.

The plant originates from the Mediterranean basin and Western Asia. It typically inhabits rocky slopes, open grasslands, and steppe-like landscapes. Due to its hardiness and aesthetic value, it has been introduced into many temperate gardening regions, where it serves as a robust addition to rock gardens and naturalized borders.

Botanically, it features narrow basal leaves with a distinct white central stripe. The inflorescence consists of small, star-shaped white flowers with greenish stripes on the reverse side of the tepals.
