Mountain star-of-Bethlehem (Ornithogalum montanum) is a charming bulbous perennial belonging to the Asparagaceae family. This species is highly valued in horticulture for its resilience and the delicate, star-shaped flowers that bloom in early spring, signaling the transition of seasons in the garden.
The native range of this species is primarily the mountainous regions of Southern Europe. Because it originates from alpine and sub-alpine environments, the plant is naturally adapted to survive in harsh, rocky soils and fluctuating temperatures, making it a robust choice for amateur and professional gardeners alike.
Botanically, it features a small, fleshy bulb that produces a cluster of narrow, channelled basal leaves. The flower spikes are relatively short and carry a dense raceme of white flowers.
