Because it originates from high-altitude and rocky terrains, the plant is naturally adapted to harsh, poor-soil conditions and significant temperature fluctuations. In agricultural and horticultural terms, it is increasingly valued as a specialty crop for xeriscaping and sustainable gardening projects.

Botanically, Orostachys malacophylla exhibits a high level of drought resistance, thanks to its specialized leaf structure. It is quite hardy in terms of cold tolerance, provided that the soil remains dry during the dormant winter period.

The primary horticultural application of this crop is in rock gardens, green roofs, and container arrangements where low-maintenance, drought-tolerant species are required. While not a large-scale agricultural commodity, it has potential in herbalism, where traditional uses of similar Crassulaceae species suggest anti-inflammatory properties.
